Macdonough, Thomas

(31 dic. 1783, The Trap, Del., EE.UU.–10 nov. 1825, en alta mar, en el trayecto desde el mar Mediterráneo a Nueva York).

Oficial naval estadounidense. Ingresó a la marina en 1800 y estuvo bajo las órdenes de Stephen Decatur en la guerra de Trípoli. En la guerra anglo-estadounidense (1812) recibió órdenes de recorrer los lagos entre Canadá y EE.UU. Cuando las tropas británicas amenazaron Plattsburg, N.Y., sede del cuartel general del ejército de EE.UU. en la frontera del norte, salió con su flota de 14 buques al encuentro del escuadrón británico, de 16 unidades, en el lago Champlain. Su victoria (11 de sep. de 1814) salvó a los estados de Nueva York y Vermont de ser invadidos.
